falistri / faˈlistri / s.f., plural [Modenese dialect, probably from latin fauilla, ‘spark’] – ‘sparks’. One cannot think about a lively bonfire without sparks crackling and dancing through the air. ‘Falistri’ is what lights up your patch and takes care of how it moves, through sparks, motions and crackles.

Falistri is a fully analog, multipurpose movement manager, designed to generate and edit voltages.

The module can be divided into two major subsections: the upper two thirds of the panel host two specular function generators, while the lower third comprises a dual cascading frequency divider, linear slew limiter and four quadrant multiplier.

The generators are made to quickly and intuitively achieve the function needed, providing several outputs and inputs to dynamically change their times and trigs. Times are independent from shapes. When sculpting an envelope, you can freely morph from Logarithmic to Linear to Exponential slope, without changing the time needed to complete Rise or Fall (and their Loop time when used as oscillator). In addition, shapes are exclusive per each stage. Freely combine Logarithmic Rise and Logarithmic Fall, Linear Attack and Logarithmic Fall or any other combination of the three modes, as well as any blending in between these shapes. This allows for deep sculptures of sound, both when the Falistri is used as Control Voltage as well as audio source.

The main idea behind the Falistri is live independent control over each stage of the two envelope generators and their further shaping with the dual cascading frequency divider, slew limiter and a ring modulator. Such flexibility is achieved by decoupling the time parameter from shape, which allows for live morphing between linear, logarithmic and exponential curves. Thus, each stage of the envelope can be independently assigned a different shape.

Consequently, the comparator circuits alter their logic states every time a low-to-high transition is detected. When used with audio signals, they turn into sub-octave generators and with gates they serve the purpose of a clock divider. The slew limiter is used for glides and portamento, while the four quadrant multiplier, a.k.a. modulator provides an avenue for creative signal mixing, AM modulation and doubles as a Thru-zero VCA.
